What does nora systems do with the production scraps?

The production scraps - such as die cut trim and sanding dust - from nora® floor coverings are reused in the production process to manufacture new products. They are granulated and become part of the raw material base of different nora® products. There they are used either as high-quality fillers or as a main component for speckled floor coverings like norament® 925 grano, etc.

What happens with the scraps from installations and with old nora® floor coverings?

The reuse of production scraps such as web flashes and abrasive dust from nora® floorcoverings such as rubber has been going on for a long time. They are granulated and become part of the raw material base of different nora® products. There they are used as high-quality fillers and partly as moulding compounds for decoration granules.

What happens with the cuttings from laying and with old nora® floorcoverings?

There are various ways of disposing of installation scraps and old floor coverings:

1. Material recycling
nora® rubber floor coverings are recycled by specialist firms for use as landing mats, industrial or stable mats and coverings for sports areas.
2. Thermal recycling
In principle possible use as substitute fuel instead of gas or oil in thermal stations, where the energy contained in the combustible material is recovered.
3. Complete material/thermal recycling
Energy recovery in the cement industry through thermal recycling. Because of their advantageous composition, the fillers remain in the cement clinker.
4. Disposal in landfill sites
Even though nora® floor coverings boast a long lifetime, if they do need to be removed, disposal is easy:
  • They can easily be disposed of into landfills since there are no harmful substances
  • They can be incinerated thus reusing the energy contained in the material

  • Always abide by federal, state or local regulations.

Can new nora® floor coverings be made of production scraps, returned installation scraps and old coverings?

In 1995 nora systems, Inc. (formerly Freudenberg Building Systems) introduced a new product line with ecoplan® and ecoment®. These floor coverings are particularly economical and contain a high percentage of recycled material (up to 50%). The recycled material may consist of production scraps, installation scraps or old nora® floor coverings.
